In early May, we issued an urgent call for volunteers to come to Brownsville, Texas, and serve migrants at the border. If you recall, Title 42 was due to lift May 11, and tensions at the border were swelling. Our primary partner in Brownsville, Pastor Carlos Navarro, was preparing for an enormous increase in the numbers of migrants he would be serving at the Welcome Center adjacent to the bus station and at his church's immigrant respite center.

We ask, and you answered. 23 of you quickly made arrangements and drove (or even flew!) down to the tip of Texas to be of service. You brought or sent loads of T-shirts, shoes, caps, Gatorades, and gift cards. You passed out Little Caesar's pizzas. You smiled. You alleviated fears and offered a warm welcome to our new neighbors.

Pastor Carlos estimates that together we served an average of 275 migrants each day. Migration trends can be hard to predict. We expected more activity after Title 42 lifted than what we saw. Instead, the numbers have evened out, and the urgent need has been met for the time being.
