Announcing new Director of Communications and Development

Fellowship Southwest is growing! We are excited to announce the addition of a full-time staff position. As of this week, Cameron Mason Vickrey is the new director of communications and development.

Cameron has been part of the work of Fellowship Southwest since it was just beginning. In August of 2017, when Fellowship Southwest first launched, Cameron was working with Upward Strategy Group to assist the new organization with its communications and strategic plans. In 2019, Cameron took on the role of a part-time communications consultant for Fellowship Southwest. She created the weekly email newsletter, developed and maintained the website, and enjoyed working closely with Marv Knox until his retirement. Starting March 1, 2022, Cameron’s role with Fellowship Southwest will increase to include development, helping the organization move to independent sustainable funding from a diversity of sources. The position is designed so that development is tied directly to the stories we tell through our communications.

Cameron has a master of divinity degree from Wake Forest University School of Divinity. She grew up in Dallas at Wilshire Baptist Church, where her father pastored from the time she was in kindergarten until his retirement later this year. Her husband Garrett is pastor of Woodland Baptist Church in San Antonio. He is also the son of a former longtime Dallas pastor, Ray Vickrey, at Royal Lane Baptist Church. Cameron and Garrett have three daughters in elementary and middle school.

Before joining Fellowship Southwest full-time, Cameron also contracted with two other organizations for communications work: Faith Commons and Pastors for Texas Children. Fortunately, both of these organizations are close partners with Fellowship Southwest, and Cameron looks forward to continued collaboration.

“Fellowship Southwest feels like home for me,” Cameron says. “It gives me hope for the future of church life: it represents a new model for churches and individuals to come together and live out their calling to love their neighbor. I love telling the stories of what Fellowship Southwest is involved in, and I look forward to dedicating more of my time to this sacred work.”

Executive Director Stephen Reeves shares: “I am thrilled that Cameron is joining our staff full-time. She is passionate, hard working, a great writer, and committed to our vision and future. She’s also a knowledgeable and experienced advocate. In this new roll I’m certain she will further elevate our communications and help deliver a sustainable development strategy.”
