A 6-year old's first birthday party
Ministry to migrants looks like many things one would not predict. Most people assume it includes providing meals, clothing and shelter. Emotional and spiritual attention is just as important in FSW migrant ministries, too. But caring for the whole person, the whole family, also involves commemorating special celebrations like birthdays for children.
One such occasion was the sixth birthday of a little girl from Afghanistan. She and her family have taken refuge in Tijuana under the care of Pastor Juvenal Gonzalez’s ministry. After learning that the child had never had a birthday party, the pastor and his family and friends went all out to provide a party she’ll never forget. (Birthday parties like in the U.S. and Mexico are not traditional in Afghanistan.)
Complete with a piñata, a unicorn cake and presents, this precious six-year old will always remember her first birthday with her new friends in Tijuana.
