FSW Statement on the Big Beautiful Bill

By Stephen Reeves

Fellowship Southwest is disappointed and saddened by the passage of the “Big Beautiful Bill” by the House of Representatives this afternoon. We advocated against many of the provisions that, with the President’s signature, will now become law. As an organization committed to justice for the vulnerable, we fear what is to come. The cuts to Medicaid, SNAP and other social safety net programs will harm those whom Jesus called us to serve. The vast increase in immigration enforcement funding will no doubt rip families apart, deport those seeking refuge from persecution, and those working to feed their families. The stranger, the sick, the widow, the orphan, and the hungry have been forsaken in favor of the wealthy. We pray for all those for whom life will be harder.

Our hope now lies with you. It will be neighbors, churches, nonprofits, and friends who will step in and step up in response to the abandonment by our political leaders.

Our call to practice compassion and pursue justice remains. We lament now but are committed and undeterred. We will continue working to make our communities look a little more like God’s Kingdom.
