You can understand if Maria Elena De Los Angels feels like Job. She’s one of the victims of the deep freeze that pummeled Texas last February—folks Fellowship Southwest is helping through its close partner, Hearts4Kids.

Her home burned during the freeze, and state officials removed her three foster children for their safety. Hearts4Kids learned of her plight in March, about the time the children came back home. H4K Founder Jorge Zapata stepped in order building supplies purchased with funds provided by Fellowship Southwest supporters. And he set to work coordinating volunteers.

So far, three Rio Grande Valley churches have volunteered to help. All three times, the pastor of each church tested positive for COVID-19 and had to back out. Zapata, who also missed three weeks of work due to an unrelated illness, is still looking for volunteers. 

“This family is going through tough times,” Zapata said. “The boys are sleeping in one of the bedrooms, and the mom is sleeping in the garage. We thank the Lord for the patience of this family.”
