Safe Not Stranded and the difference between Title 42 and MPP

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments on Biden v. Texas next week, April 26. This video is a great explanation about what is at stake. Watch until the very end, and learn how this case could set a dangerous precedent for the relationship between a president and the courts.

Need us to back up a little?

MPP stands for Migrant Protection Protocol, a misnomer if there ever was one. It is commonly referred to as "Remain in Mexico." It is one of the two Trump-era immigration policies that Fellowship Southwest has been outspoken against, along with Title 42.

Here is a helpful chart comparing these two policies. Keep it as your cheat sheet as you follow the news coming out in the next few weeks and months about the possible (hopeful) ending of Title 42 and MPP.

Regarding Title 42:

In light of the recent anti-asylum measures that have been introduced in an attempt to keep Title 42 in place, including the Public Health and Border Security Act of 2022 and the House companion, faith groups are circulating a faith sign on letter to oppose these measures and any attempts to keep Title 42 in place. Please find an outreach email copied below my signature if helpful. The deadline for signatures is COB Friday, April 22nd.

  • Faith Leaders: Sign onto the faith letter using this form by COB Friday, April 22nd.

  • Faith Organizations (local, state, national): Sign onto the faith letter using this form by COB Friday, April 22nd.

The migrants who are left to fend for themselves because of MPP and Title 42 often find refuge with one of the shelters that Fellowship Southwest supports. You can help support this by giving to The Knox Fund for Immigrant Relief.
