Nora Lozano celebrates Hispanic culture

Nora Lozano

Each week of Hispanic Heritage Month, FSW is featuring a Hispanic woman who does good work for God’s kingdom.

Nora Lozano is from Monterrey, Mexico, and has been involved in theological education for more than 25 years. She came to the U.S. at age 25 to pursue her Masters of Divinity and PhD in theological and religious studies, while raising a young family at the same time. She lives in San Antonio where she is a faithful member of Woodland Baptist Church. She currently serves as supplemental faculty at Central Seminary, and most notably, she is the executive director of the Christian Latina Leadership Institute.

Nora says, “All cultures have good things and bad things about them.” Latino culture holds many values that align with values of the faith. They are highly relational, they value family above all else—both given and chosen family—and they are hard working.

CLLI offers holistic education to women, Latinas and Latinas at heart, to equip them to serve God in their context. Oftentimes, living in a non-Latino society, it can be easy to feel less-than, or to believe that they cannot aspire to bigger things. CLLI helps women with their overall self-esteem and coaches them to develop leadership skills that incorporate their culture, their values and their vocation.

We are grateful for Nora’s dedicated leadership and ministry to Latina women and our society overall. Because of her love for Hispanic culture and her love for theology and ministry, the church will surely flourish.
